The “Hatchistery” Project

UPWA received a  River Ecosystem Restoration Initiative (RERI) Grant from the state of New Mexico to restore the section of the river from Lisboa Springs down to Monastery Lake. UPWA completed this project in June of  2010, however monitoring will continue throughout 2013. Chris Philips of Riverbend Engineering was the project engineer.

Rich Schrader of River Source  is  responsible for monitoring water temperature and vegetation. To see some before and after photos of the “Hatchistery” project please click here.

WRAS & WBP

In 2007 the Upper Pecos Watershed Association (UPWA) produced and distributed a Watershed Restoration Action Strategy (WRAS). The WRAS  is a living document that outlines the impairments in the watershed and the areas where the watershed can be improved. In January of 2010 the UPWA received a CWA 319 Grant to update and expand the WRAS, which is now called a Watershed Based Plan (WBP). UPWA will develop a prioritized list of specific restoration projects within the watershed that could be implemented immediately (upon funding)  to begin to improve situations that contribute to water quality degradation in the Upper Pecos Watershed.

CFRP

UPWA has received a Collaborative Forest Restoration Program Grant from the US Forest Service to study wildfire risk in Holy Ghost, Dalton and Winsor Canyons and develop a Firewise Program for the community. Dave Morgan of La Calandria Associates, Inc., was  our consultant  for the WRAS and is now our consultant  for both the CFRP and WBP projects.
